My paintings include places that may appear to be damaged or decaying, but upon closer examination reveal a patina that has grown richer with time and endurance. Windows reflect my feelings of isolation – looking from the outside into the worlds of others, but often seeing only a part of the whole. Lush gardens and fields express the beauty around us.

Living in a geographical region of rocks, water, islands and weather – where each cycle of Nature promises renewal – provides the setting for my work and reassurance for the future.

Michie Stovall O’Day was born in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1956. Although exposed to the folk art of her grandmother, Queena Stovall, throughout her childhood and to more classical styles as an adult, Michie did not begin painting until she turned thirty.

In 1996, Michie became deaf from tumors on her acoustic nerves. In 2000, she moved to Maine to devote her life to her art. The subsequent change in her work has been profound. Her landscapes and still life paintings convey a sense of discovery, peace, and unapologetic fascination with the romance and beauty of imperfection.

Her paintings are in private collections in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southern regions of the United States. She has received numerous private commissions and has been the subject of profiles in various publications.
